Sphynx

Designer Cat Network -Where imagination meets design.

Many people may remember Mr. Wigglesworth from the Austin Powers movie who was played by a sphynx. The sphynx is a hairless breed of cat that has been around since the mid-1960s. It was derived from a natural mutation that was found to be recessive which results in a cat with little to no fur. Sphynx can be completely hairless or could have a very light covering of down that makes them feel like "peach fuzz". The feel of their skin has been compared to soft suede. Sphynx can come in all colors and patterns and they tend to be a good medium sized cat.

Sphynx do require some grooming even though they do not have fur. Periodic baths or wiping the skin down with a wet cloth and routine ear cleaning will help keep the cat clean and remove excess oil from the skin. Individuals with cat allergies may be able to own a sphynx with little to no problem but keep in mind that there is no such thing as a completely hypoallergenic cat breed.

The personality of the sphynx is fun-loving, curious, active, and silly. They love to be around people and other animals and always seem to be the center of attention with their goofy antics. Sphynx are accepted for registration by The International Cat Association (TICA) and by Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA).
